henry mwandumbaDr Henry Mwandumba is based in Blantyre, Malawi as a Consultant Physician at the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme. He is also a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellow and the current Vice-President of FAIS.

Dr Mwandumba obtained his medical degree from the University of Zimbabwe School of Medicine and specialised in General (Internal) Medicine and Infectious Diseases in the United Kingdom.

His research focuses on understanding the effects of HIV on pulmonary innate immunity and predisposition to respiratory infection. Dr Mwandumba’s research group works predominantly with alveolar macrophages, assessing their function in patients infected with HIV, with or without respiratory co-infections. Dr Mwandumba spoke to Immunopaedia about TB Immunity in the lung.
