Immunopaedia Ambassador, Nadia Ikumi, was very fortunate to conduct an interview of Dr Erica L. Johnson. Dr Johnson completed her doctoral studies at the Morehouse School of Medicine, where her dissertation focused on the role of CCR9 in ovarian cancer. She then proceeded to a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Emory University. In 2020, she joined Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) as Associate Professor and Laboratory Director and Co-investigator of the MSM Vaccine Trials Unit. Dr. Johnson’s research focuses on understanding correlates of protection during pregnancy, defining mechanisms of natural immune control and determining how these can be exploited to develop interventions that limit mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of pathogens (Source: Morehouse School of Medicine). In this interview Dr Johnson discusses her research and major findings she has published, she also provides insights on the impact of COVID-19 on the placenta and in utero-transmission.
