Interleukin 1(IL-1) has many functions on many different cells and is secreted by a number of cells including macrophages, monocytes and dendritic cells. It also helps to activate T helper cells by acting as a co-stimulator with the antigen presenting cell receptors and it helps promote the maturation and clonal expansion of B cells.
