The 1st December 2015 is World AIDS day and another year of progress towards ending the epidemic. There are now 15 million people on life-saving antiretroviral drug treatments around the World, a large proportion of those in South Africa.

New prevention strategies, such as Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) have yielded success in a number of clinical trials in MSM cohorts. Putting HIV vaccine candidates into clinical trials is taking place in Africa with an aim of replicating or improving upon the RV144 vaccine trial in Thailand. Today also sees messages from UNAIDS and the NIH around these endeavors and more.
